Common Questions - STACS

1 Who is eligible for STACS coverage?

Benefits for Substitute Teachers and Casual Staff (STACS) is a package of life insurance and health benefits offered to substitute teachers and casual staff. For full eligibility requirements, see the "Eligibility for Coverage" section of the Substitute Teacher and Casual Staff Benefit Guide.

3 After I enrol, when can I start using my benefits?

If approved for STACS coverage, you will be set up for benefits on the first day of the month following approval. For example, if you are approved on March 5, your benefits will take effect on April 1.

Note: You do not have to be at work on your effective date of coverage; however, you must be able to perform the usual and customary duties of a substitute teacher (or casual staff, if applicable) on that date. If not, then your effective date of coverage will be delayed until such time as you are able to perform those duties for one complete day.

4 What if I become eligible for other benefits when I take a temporary contract?

You will have to notify ASEBP about this change. Further details about what happens to your STACS benefits and the steps you need to take to notify ASEBP are in the "Accepting a Temporary Contract" section of the Substitute Teacher and Casual Staff Benefit Guide.

5 What do I need to do if my personal information changes?
There are different forms available depending on the type of change you need to make. Refer to the "Advising ASEBP of Changes" section of the Substitute Teacher and Casual Staff Benefit Guide for the details.
6 How much do I have to pay for these benefits?

Your monthly premium costs depend on the coverage you choose. It is best to refer to the "Making Premium Payments" section of the Substitute Teacher and Casual Staff Benefit Guide for full details about paying premiums to ASEBP.
